Is there any end to Gretta’s stupidity? 10 honor students minus 2 honor students taking the SAT leaves 8 honor students only taking the ACT, not 8 average Joes appearing out of thin air to take the SAT.
Does it really matter?
Lower percentage of students -> higher mean score
The percentage of students taking the SAT in 1997:
California 45% NAT’L AVERAGE 42% Tennessee 13% Kentucky 12% Louisiana 10% Alabama 8% Mississippi 4%
Secondly, Most students just take the ACT since it is accepted by virtually all of the Southern Universities. There is no need to take the SAT. Roughly 2 out of 10 honor society members take the SAT. All take the ACT. That leaves 8 average Joes also taking the SAT. Which is a good distribution.
All the unwashed Southern masses who just want to get into some local state school take the ACT. They don’t take the SAT. Only the Southern students applying to schools in other states where the ACT test is not acceptable need to take the SAT, and those students are definitely better students on average than the masses of regular Joes who only take the ACT to get into local state schools. So the Southern sample is unfairly biased since the vast pools of average to poor students just taking the ACT to get into local schools are not included in the sample.
